Oct 3, 2014 //Washington, D.C.// Cellucci Associates, Inc. welcomes Angela Natilla, PhD as it’s Senior Vice President of Biotechnology, Biodefense, and Agriculture Technology.

Natilla brings her extensive expertise and experience in the rapidly-growing biotechnology arena—from basic research through to the full deployment of products. She brings to our firm over 10 years of international leadership experience in biotechnology with emphasis on cutting edge research aimed at solving major societal issues.  In her role, she will lead our biodefense and agriculture practices–from technical design, lab research, proof-of-concept, prototype design, testing, all the way through to commercialization.

Dr. Natilla is an expert in the design and engineering of plant based nanotechnology platforms. She has also successfully modified virus genomes, introduced foreign gene sequences to produce recombinant viruses and virus-like particles. The virus-like concept is an intriguing approach in which the versatile virus properties are exploited for nanotechnology applications, while circumventing the virulent aspect of the viruses. These virus-based expression vectors have wide potential applications in molecular electronics, diagnostics, drug targeting, and vaccine development.

Dr. Thomas A. Cellucci, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cellucci Associates, Inc. stated: “Dr. Natilla is a results-oriented professional with a very strategic approach to technology development. In addition, her evaluation of new technologies is unparalled—which will greatly assist our clients.”

Mr. Lester Quintana, Senior Vice President for Consulting Services stated, “Dr. Natilla’s research greatly complements our offerings and will provide our customers high market differentiation in important areas like rapid biological detection.”

“I am honored to be part of Cellucci Associates, Inc. team. The company possesses a full range of services to assist business, agencies and international organizations, an arena in which Cellucci Associates, Inc. is a global leader. I look forward to working with our partners and clients to maintain the tradition of leveraging resources between industry and public agencies to obtain ‘win-win’ maximum results, as pioneered by Dr. Cellucci,” said Dr. Natilla.

Dr. Natilla has designed, developed, and tested vaccine candidates for High Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus (HPAIV)- and Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV). US Government Federal agencies such as the Center for Disease Control, the Environmental Protection Agency, US Department of Agriculture (Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service) and US Department of Homeland Security all recognize Avian Influenza and New Castle Diseases as a major biosecurity concern in livestock and its threat to our food supply.  In the United States alone, a 4 months outbreak resulted in the death of more than 3 million birds and caused industry losses estimated at over $5 billion.

Her accomplishments include the re-engineering of the Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and advancing research for edible vaccines, which are now readily available and cost-effective. Approximately 150 million people are chronically infected with hepatitis C virus, and more than 350,000 people die each year from hepatitis C-related liver diseases.  There is currently no vaccine for hepatitis C, however research in this area is moving forward because of scientists like Natilla.

Dr. Natilla has authored/co-authored many peer reviewed articles, abstracts and proceedings. Her articles have received praise from the scientific community as a result of her visionary and innovative approaches.  An accomplished speaker, Dr. Natilla is frequently invited to provide seminars, speeches and presentations. Her research has been presented both in the US and internationally in both academic and private industry settings in countries such as Hungary, Italy, Puerto Rico, Spain, Egypt and Canada. She is recognized for her engaging presentation style and in-depth knowledge of biotechnology, biodefense, agriculture, and the identification of new technologies for commercialization.

Dr. Natilla currently serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals and also served as an internal reviewer for the US Department of Agriculture in areas of food production, safety, food security, molecular biology, and nanotechnology. Natilla has received several awards for her scientific achievements.

Dr. Natilla holds a PhD in Plant Protection/Virology, a MS in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, and a certificate of advanced study in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Bari.
